Environmental Policy

Last updated: 18 May 2026

Our commitment

Blue Sky Medic Ltd (trading as Codara) is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its operations and to supporting the NHS in meeting its own sustainability commitments.

As a UK-based, mobile-first software company, our direct environmental footprint is relatively modest. We nevertheless take responsibility for reducing environmental impact where we have control, making proportionate and practical sustainability decisions, and being transparent about our approach as the company grows.

We recognise that meaningful sustainability improvements should be practical, measurable, and proportionate to company size and operational scale.

Reducing our impact

Our operations and product are designed to keep environmental impact low where reasonably possible:

Paperless by design

Codara digitises structured clinical documentation workflows that would otherwise depend on paper forms, printing, scanning, and manual audit processes, helping reduce paper use across the services we support.

Mobile-first product design

Codara is designed primarily for use on mobile devices rather than requiring prolonged desk-based desktop workflows. Mobile devices typically consume less energy during routine use than traditional desktop computing environments.

Faster workflows

By reducing the time clinical and administrative staff spend documenting and reviewing cases, Codara helps reduce the overall device and screen time required to complete equivalent workflows.

Cloud-based infrastructure

Our infrastructure is hosted using cloud providers with publicly stated renewable energy and sustainability commitments.

Remote-first working

Codara operates a remote-first working model where possible, reducing routine commuting and avoiding the environmental impact associated with maintaining permanent office premises.

Supporting the NHS net zero ambition

The NHS has committed to becoming the world's first net zero national health service and expects suppliers to support that ambition.

As a small UK SaaS company, we are not currently subject to the Carbon Reduction Plan requirements under Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21, which generally applies to central government procurements above £5 million per annum. However, we remain committed to supporting NHS sustainability goals in ways that are proportionate to our size and stage of development.

This includes:

Responsible procurement and equipment

Where reasonably practical, we consider environmental credentials when selecting suppliers, software providers, and infrastructure partners.

IT equipment is kept in service for its full useful life where feasible and disposed of responsibly at end of life in accordance with applicable Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations.
